NEW YORK — Nearly one out of every five Democrats thinks the world will be better off if America loses the war in Iraq, according to the FOX News Opinion Dynamics Poll released Thursday.
The percentage of Democrats (19 percent) who believe that is nearly four times the number of Republicans (5 percent) who gave the same answer. Seven percent of independents said the world would be better off if the U.S. lost the war.
Overall, 11 percent of Americans think the world would be “better off” if the U.S. lost the war, and 73 percent disagree.
Opinion Dynamics Corp. conducted the national telephone poll of 900 registered voters for FOX News from Sept. 25 to Sept. 26. The poll has a 3-point margin of error. [Fox News]
The time to question their patriotism is over. Wishing for their own country to lose a war has got to be the dictionary antonym of patriotism.

To carry the anti-Patriotism theme a little further, in an interview released today Barack Obama stated he decided to take his American flag lapel pin off in order to make an anti-Iraq-war statement. He is running for President of the United States. If he wins he will be the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. The other day he refused to state that he would pull US forces out of Iraq before 2013. And he has decided to make a statement against the war by removing his American flag lapel pin.
“The truth is that right after 9-11 I had a pin,” Obama said. “Shortly after 9-11, particularly because as we’re talking about the Iraq war, that became a substitute for I think true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security. [AP]
Symbols are important. They are not meaningless. Does Obama take off
his wedding ring when he has a fight with his wife? Does he remove his
wedding ring as a protest against the empty symbolism of the ring,
instead explaining to every Obama girl how he loves his wife and is
committed to his marriage? Wouldn’t that explanation work better if he
kept a ring on his finger?
If he is making a statement, it’s fair to explore its meaning. The surface meaning is that he no longer approves of the American nation. After removing his lapel pin, how does he respond to communists and other people who hate America and think that because he took off his lapel pin, that he must hate America too? Wouldn’t that explanation go better with a flag on his lapel? Only a naif would take off the pin and think that act has no meaning. It has a meaning, an obvious meaning, and no lengthy explanation can obscure its meaning.
Maybe he didn’t think about it very much.
Maybe he should.
Obama wants to be America’s president. How will he keep the respect of the military? How will he keep the respect of the people? How will he stand up for America’s values and needs in the face of hostile foreign powers? If he is too embarrassed about America to wear a symbolic lapel pin, then exactly how patriotic can he be?

The battle of Iraq was won in a few weeks. What is difficult is the pacification of Iraq, because it is being sabotaged by all Iraq’s neighbors. And by all, I mean *all*. Even Turkey.
Much like the defensive Cold War against Soviet Communism and its exported world-wide revolution, this Counterjihad is a generations-long war: The Long War. The reason for the pacification of Afghanistan and Iraq is that if they are not pacified then the US will need to go into them again, and in the meantime they will serve as a jihadist haven in the rear of other operations.
Liberalization was thought of as the least cruel, most hopeful form for pacification to take. Certainly the installation of a friendly tyrant would have been easier and quicker, but it would not have created allies among the Iraqis. By liberalizing Iraq and Afghanistan, the coalition hopes to create friendly Muslim states in the Middle East and South Asia.
