Stephen Coughlin and Jihad Terror Doctrine in the real world

Stephen Coughlin is a lawyer, a Reserve Military Intellgence officer, an Arabic speaker, and a scholar of Islamic law. He is also soon to be a former advisor to the Pentagon, who was fired after ruffling the feathers of “Hasham Islam, an aide to Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England,” by “being too critical of Islamic law.” [1, 2]

While looking through Stephen Coughlin’s master’s thesis I was impressed less by Coughlin’s own writing, which was stodgy and academic as is only to be expected from the fact that it is found in an academic thesis, than by his command of the material. Appendix G, on real world Jihad doctrine, is a real eye-opener. The following is quoted from the Qur’anic Concept of War by Brigadier S. K. Malik of the Pakistani Army. This book is state sanctioned military doctrine for Pakistan.

Terror struck into the hearts of the enemies is not only a means; it is an end in itself. Continue reading

Turkey’s Primal Scream and the PKK

Someone appears to have been spending too much time howling at the moon. Ertugal Ozkok writes in Turkish newspaper Hurriyet:

If Barzani’s plan involves using the PKK to create a new ” powerful Kurdish nation,” we need to show him a new map.

Either that, or we need to show him that the price for that nation, built by using the PKK as a tool, will be too high for them to pay.

We need to explain: A handful of F-16s from the Turkish Air Force carrying out 30 or 40 sorties would result in a northern Iraq that just went backwards 20 years.

What if American F-16s come in front of us to block us? Let them try, that’s their business.

But the United States shouldn’t forget that such a course will involve Iran, Syria, and attach Russia, too. In fact, what they’ll see is a geography that stretches all the way to Afghanistan. Oh, and let Washington remember to add nations in its old backyard to the mix, those Latin American countries that now hate the United States. And then there’s always neutral Europe. Yes, these are all things that not only we, but America, lying 14,000 kilometers away from us, needs to think about. If the calculations and bills are being made there, the scale is over here. And on one side of the scale lies northern Iraq, while on the other side lays Turkey.

Turkey has come to the point of making some historical and global decisions. And what has brought us to this point? What lies behind the caprices of the northern Iraqi government is a super state’s (U.S.) super-caprice. This is the only conclusion I can reach after three hours of meditation trying to calm my feelings of anger.

(via memeorandum)

Luckily for all involved, Ozkok is an editorial writer, not a general. Think of him as a Turkish Ann Coulter without the long blonde locks, throwing verbal hand grenades at his target du jour.

The picture he paints isn’t totally implausible. If the US went to war with Turkey it would be a huge tragedy with enormous repercussions.

Comrade Osama bin Laden, Jihad Marxist Moonbat

A few weeks ago, the media wing of Al Qaeda released an Osama bin Laden tape that was full of rambling Marxist and multiculturalist folderol, obviously written by Californian Jewish convert to Jihadism and all-around moonbat death-metal fruit-basket Adam Gadahn. The speech resonated so well with the transnational-socialist left-wing of the Democrat party in America that one could well imagine a cleaned up Bin Laden doing well in Democrat presidential polls. He’d do gangbusters on HuffPo, Think Progress and FireDogLake. Now that would be a first for the Democratic Party: The first active terrorist to be a Democratic presidential candidate.

Editorial cartoon by Payne.

Bin Laden could also be the first deceased sock-puppet of a moonbat death-metal fruit-basket Jewish convert to Jihadism to be a Democratic presidential candidate, but that’s a topic for another post. For the rest of this post I will hold to the polite fiction that Bin Laden is definitely alive. But it doesn’t really matter whether he’s alive or dead. Somebody is putting out videos with his face on them. Somebody is guiding and coordinating Al Qaeda’s efforts. I’m concerned about somebody.

Dr. Sanity wrote a brilliant piece (as usual) about the love-match between Islam and Marxism that threatens the rest of the world. It’s called Islam and Marxism: A Marriage Made in Allah’s Socialist Paradise.

Multiculturalism and political correctness are two of the fundamental pseudo-intellectual, quasi-religious tenets that have been widely disseminated by intellectuals unable to abandon socialism even after its crushing failures in the 20th century. Along with a third component, radical environmentalism, they make up three key foundations of leftist dogma that have been slowly, but relentlessly, absorbed at all levels of Western culture in the last decade or so–but primarily since the end of the Cold War. Bad Jimmah

Jacob Laksin and David Horowitz have laid out the case against Jimmy Carter, now not only the worst president of the last one-hundred years but the worst ex-president. Before you watch, be ready to see some graphic images of what jihadist resistance looks like when written in terms of flesh and blood.

Text of Bin Laden Speech

I just finished typing it in.

I’ve seen an image of the text in some places, and partial transcripts in others, but the image is hard to quote or to fisk. This speech begs for fisking, close analysis and fact correction, and for comparing different passages to the statements of different anti-war figures like Noam “Terrorist Buddy” Chomsky, Cindy “Smoothie Diet” Sheehan, “Dingy” Harry Reid, Michael “Sicko” Moore, Nancy “Blinky” Pelosi, John “Lurch” Kerry, and the sonorous retard himself, Keith “4th place in his timeslot” Olbermaniac.

The text seems as if it was written in English and translated to Arabic. It would be useful to find out where Bin Laden and Jewish convert Adam Gadahn got the language for this speech, which hits every single leftist and socialist argument (except Abu Ghraib and Gitmo, which have already been used several times) against the Global Counterjihad, and also appeals to Republicans by promising tax cuts under Islamic governance. The scattershot style actually sounds desperate, as if he would say anything to get the US to stop fighting and leave him alone. I think he realizes that Al Qaeda is beaten in Afghanistan and Iraq, and this is a last ditch effort to stop the systematic dismantling of Al Qaeda in Iraq and the Taliban in Afghanistan. And there is one other thing that reinforces this analysis, this feeling, that I get from the words. Look at the pictures of Bin Laden in 2004 and 2007. As Robert Spencer notes, if Osama Bin Laden has dyed his hair and beard black, it means he is preparing to fight and kill or be killed in Jihad for the sake of Allah. He is preparing to physically fight, which he has not yet done in Al Qaeda’s Global Jihad, preferring to direct his doomed minions from a safe area in the rear. He has taken the coward’s path until now. But for this video he has dyed his hair and beard black as Blackbeard the Pirate. It would seem that he is preparing some last ditch spectacular attack, with the hope being that it will change the momentum of the battles in Iraq or Afghanistan and give his Jihadist followers and allies breathing room. He might even have some kind of spectacular suicide attack using WMDs in mind, and might even sacrifice his own life for the cause.

This is if Bin Laden is alive. It is very possible that he is dead and his spectre is being used to distract attention away from living Jihadists. Omar al Baghdadi, the ostensible Iraqi head of Al Qaeda in Iraq, is a fictional character. If Al Qaeda uses a fictional character as a figurehead for one of their organizations it is no great leap to think they might use a dead man as a figurehead for another one. It is as if NATO claimed that Ronald Reagan, Winston Churchill, and Napoleon were secretly directing global Counterjihad plans.

Have at it. All I ask is that you link back to where you got it.

You know something is wrong at the border when a terrorist, complete with fatigues, balaclava, and AK47, crawls through the X-Ray machine and nobody raises an eyebrow.

Responding to a Nuclear Armed Terrorist Catspaw

The International Herald Tribune describes something that went on in a smoke-free back room.

WASHINGTON: Every week, a group of experts from agencies around the government — including the CIA, the Pentagon, the FBI and the Energy Department — meet to assess Washington’s progress toward solving a grim problem: if a terrorist set off a nuclear bomb in an American city, could the United States determine who detonated it and who provided the nuclear material?

So far, the answer is maybe.

It seems to me that this question is the wrong question to ask. We’re not playing a game of Clue here. We are not channeling Sherlock Holmes. We’re talking about nuclear war being declared against us, and carried out by a Terrorist catspaw of a nuclear armed state. How many Terrorism-sponsoring countries are there? In a nuclear war, all Terrorism-sponsoring countries are guilty until they prove themselves innocent.

Isn’t the whole point of nuclear deterrence that retaliation will not be equal to the first strike but much larger, much more murderous, and immensely terrifying to everyone?

The response to a nuclear attack on US soil should be:

  • Shut down the Mexican and Canadian borders.
  • Set the White House phone lines on fire with continuous meetings with all the known and suspected nuclear powers plus Saudi Arabia, Iran, Syria, and Egypt, informing them that the US will punish any of them that does not join in the War against whomever set off the bomb. Leave the meaning of punish fuzzy.
  • Pass through private channels an ultimatum that the retaliation against the Terror States of North Korea, Iran, Syria, and the Talibanistan part of Pakistan will be coming quickly and will be overwhelming. Their one chance is to prove their innocence by fingering the culprit.
  • Declare War against the Terror States in North Korea, Iran, Syria, and Talibanistan. Seize all their external assets and use them to start paying for the War. Expel all their citizens from the US. Any with dual citizenship can stay if they renounce their non-US citizenship. Ban all private travel to and commerce with them and prosecute violators. Start negotiations with these Terror States to see how quickly they want to surrender and turn over all their assets to be managed by the United States. Nuke military targets in each. Continue to press the negotiations, and continue to bomb them, until they surrender.

This is about planning for a nuclear war, for Pete’s sake! This isn’t about a lawsuit or some kind of criminal trial or a popularity contest. This is about winning a nuclear war as quickly as possible to minimize the total number of civilian casualties on our side. And that requires a brutal calculus that the idiot, leftist peace-mongers of the world will never understand, for their only idea of war is a decade-long smear campaign against George W. Bush in retaliation for Ken Starr’s investigation of Bill and Hillary Clinton. (It sounds ridiculous because it is, and it is because they are so profoundly unserious.)

The Simplified and False Image of a War of Resistance

Read this thought-provoking article, that goes into the reason why the United States-led Coalition is staying in Iraq for the 5th year. I’ll reveal the writer (and link to the source) at the bottom.

“The obscene behaviors that accompanied the execution of Saddam Hussein demonstrate that Iraqi institutions are incapable of guaranteeing the cohesion necessary for the country’s stability. The bombings that strike the markets and places of worship express an irrepressible reciprocal aversion among the existing communities, and a desire to fight that the Iraqi state is not yet in a position to repress.

“The latest American plan, which aims to reinforce the military presence in Baghdad, is aimed at compensating for the lack of order caused by the sectarian tendencies of Iraqi policemen.”

Terrorism is Aided by a Discourse that Promotes a Simplified and False Image of a War of Resistance

“In this war, which intertwines tribal score-settling, religious resentments, and foreign plans to destabilize [Iraq], the average Iraqi is aware of the fact that his immediate future is in jeopardy. He entertains no hopes – neither of reconstruction and quality of life, nor of political reform.

Let’s repeat that.

“The latest American plan, which aims to reinforce the military presence in Baghdad, is aimed at compensating for the lack of order caused by the sectarian tendencies of Iraqi policemen.”

The Americans are taking the place of the militia for those without a sectarian militia of their own: city dwellers; Christians; immigrants; Jews; businessmen; doctors. The Sunni and Shiite militias kill each other, and they attack innocents of all stripes with their most vicious attacks being aimed at the most defenseless: the mentally handicapped; new Muslim converts; women; and children. U.S. Forces are now acting as peacekeepers who oppose the sectarian murder gangs without preying upon innocents.

“In this war, which intertwines tribal score-settling, religious resentments, and foreign plans to destabilize [Iraq], the average Iraqi is aware of the fact that his immediate future is in jeopardy. He entertains no hopes – neither of reconstruction and quality of life, nor of political reform.

The terror war is complex and beyond the capabilities of Iraq’s toddling government to resolve on its own, but not beyond the capacity of Iraq’s government to resolve given the right kind of aid from Coalition armed forces, military police, and reconstruction teams. That is the purpose of the reinforcement that was named the Surge.

Coalition forces dedicate the Surge to bring HOPE to the average Iraqi, who entertains no hopes of reconstruction, quality of life, or political reform, in the sincere wish that hope will lend him strength to persevere, inspire him with goals only achievable in a free society, and blow away the biting, stinging smog of fear.

And what is one of the greatest dangers to this process of bringing HOPE to Iraq? The writer continues.

“Terrorism has won, aided by a discourse that makes a multifaceted war – which intertwines religious civil war, clan war, transnational terrorism, and a war for influence – into a simplified and false image of a war of resistance.

Our source is Mustapha Hammouche of the liberal Algerian daily Liberté, as translated to english by MEMRI.

It is possible to disagree over whether terrorism has already won. It has certainly taken the lead by winning the early marketing battles, even while losing all the firefights. Marketing is one of America’s strong suits, and the battle for minds can be turned around. But one of America’s great weaknesses identified by this Algerian writer, writing in Algeria in his native tongue, is the strident populist media and peacemonger culture that aims to disarm America and praise the terrorists as agents of “resistance.” Terrorists are not agents of “resistance.” They are counter-insurgents who see themselves as the guardians of an ancient, cruel, misogynous, xenophobic, totalitarian, expansionist, violent system, and they are willing to bomb, sabotage, and murder anyone, anything, anywhere, in order to crush the insurgency of liberty brought by the U.S-led Coalition and spread their system over the whole world.

For that is what it really is about: Liberty. Will the realm of liberty in the world expand in the next century or will it contract? Will the Insurgency of Liberty overthrow the Counter-Insurgency of Tyranny, or will Liberty be defeated? Those who oppose the U.S. presence in Iraq side, perhaps inadvertently, with terrorists. They protest that this is not true. That the enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend. But in such a binary struggle, where the other side really does want to cut off our heads and post the video on the internet, all those who weaken and enervate our valiant warriors are truly enemies of our way of life.

Eventually, even the most benighted will understand this truly is a struggle between Liberty and Tyranny for the future of the Earth. Liberty must win. The alternative, for Liberty to lose and retreat, is completely unacceptable. I hope enlightenment comes to the class of 1968 before we reach a nuclear sequel to World War II, with 200-500 million war dead, bombed out cities in the U.S. and Europe, and a desolate nuclear wasteland in Iran and Pakistan.

…and less Liberty in every heart that survives the war.
