Hillary’s Good Luck Charm Finishes Second, Dies

Hillary Clinton picked the filly Eight Belles to win the Kentucky Derby. She bet on her to win, place, and show. Eight Belles was running a clean race with no bumping, but both front ankles broke shortly after crossing the finish line. She (the horse) had to be euthanized by injection on the track, in front of the spectators of the race, before Big Brown, the favorite and winner, was presented with his trophy.

Barack Obama picked Colonel John (not Admiral John) to win. His horse was not in the money.

PETA blamed the jockey, Gabriel Saez, for the tragedy.

Scraping their fingernails on the ledges at 100MPH

This club of base jumpers goes to the top of the mountain and they jump off a cliff with wing suits on. They glide down their mountain at near-terminal velocity hugging the contours of the mountain, trying to keep at least five feet (I’m sure they’d say one and a half meters) from the mountain. This means they aim to get to about five feet from the mountain outcroppings, bridges, boulders, or trees at their full speed. Far and away the most amazing and dangerous base jumping stunt I’ve seen.

Prepare to be thrilled and to hold on to something a little tighter than you were before watching it.

Would you ever?

I wouldn’t. I have kids.

Backup video.

Oakmont and the Moral Character of the Competitor

This Father’s Day weekend is the weekend of Golf’s U.S. Open at Oakmont. The course is the most difficult U.S. Open venue and the most difficult course the PGA Tour ever plays. It has a history of identifying great players.

How does Oakmont do it? What sets the greatest of the great golfers apart from the merely great? What allows one player at an incredibly tough tournament like the US Open at Oakmont to win?
