The Online Infidel Library

Creating the Online Infidel Library, by Wolfgang Bruno.

During the Muhammad cartoon affair, the Islamic world might as well have worn a gigantic neon sign saying: “We fear freedom of speech above all else. Give us bombs, just don’t send us rational criticism or mockery.” They scream “We love death,” yet cringe like shivering Christmas puddings in front of a few cartoons. If this is what they fear most, then this is where we should push harder.

It’s well worth reading it all.

Collapsing CAIR

Patrick Poole looks at CAIR’s financial reports and concludes:

The grim portrait painted by this new financial information shows not only an organization in dire crisis, but also a stark contrast to CAIR’s public rhetoric. Even though it still claims to represent “the interests of more than seven million American Muslims”, in fact, its supporters in the American Muslim community are barely a handful. And its footprint amongst that community is shrinking rapidly. Based on my membership estimates, we find that CAIR actually only represents 1 out of every 2,676 Muslims in the most recent period that information is available, as opposed to 1 in every 1,680 the year before.

[…] Policymakers and pundits alike would do well to look at CAIR by the numbers rather than by their noise. What they would discover is that American Muslims are abandoning CAIR en masse, and the numbers still don’t lie.

Mauritania Maunderings

Being a collection of good and bad news concerning Mauritania.

Spain and Mauritania have agreed to sign a treaty of cooperation and friendship before the end of 2007 with the emphasis on immigration.

In related news, international human traffickers use a route via lawless GuineaConakry (formerly known as French Guinea) to carry South Asians to Spain and Mauritania on false documents. They wend onwards to Iceland to smuggle humans to other parts of Europe. Spain and Pakistan are signing a memorandum of agreement to reduce human smuggling. This falls out from the arrest of international human smuggler Javed Iqbal Amra.

For some reason unknown to me the Mauritanian ambassador to Gambia has felt it necessary to state that relations between Mauritania and Gambia are excellent. If you know why please say why in a comment.

Philip M. Kaiser, former US ambassador to Austria, Hungary, and Senegal/Mauritania, died May 24, 2007. He was 93.

A Real Torture Manual

See a real Torture Manual featuring a Baathist looking torturer, as found at an Al-Qaeda torture and murder house where US soldiers freed five Iraqis who had been held and tortured. It’s at the Smoking Gun. You can stand looking at it, and should. The torture instruction cartoons are gruesome but the photos of the torture victims are not excessively icky. I’ve seen worse in horror movies. It’s important to remember the goals and methods used by the Jihadist assassins, for they are what the global Counterjihad is all about.

Compare it to Abu Ghraib and Guantonomo. Were Abu Ghraib or Guantonomo prisoners showing off any bloody purple wounds? Which one is torture?

Pakistani UN peacekeepers traded arms for gold

According to Reuters and the AP

LONDON – Pakistani U.N. peacekeepers charged with disarming Congolese militia instead engaged in gold and weapons trafficking with militia members, the BBC reported Wednesday.

The BBC said U.N. investigators looking into the allegations of trading in gold and weapons were obstructed and threatened, adding that their report was buried to avoid embarrassing Pakistan, a large contributor to U.N. missions around the world.

The UN and Pakistan are denying it. But this is only the most recent in a long list of outrages in the Congo.

Jihad Radio in Pakistan

Outlook India introduces Jihad Radio, straight from every single Jihad chanting mullah in Pakistan’s high mountains, coming soon to a suicide bomber near you.

Jihadi terrorism in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region is undergoing a disquieting metamorphosis.

More and more individual Muslims are taking to jihad and suicide terrorism out of their own volition. They were not made into suicide terrorists, with offers of money, women or a place in heaven by their religious leaders. One has been seeing this not only in Afghanistan, but also in the North-West Frontier Province (NWFP) and the Federally-Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) of Pakistan.Traditional pan-Islamic jihadi organisations allied with Al Qaeda in its International Islamic Front (IIF) such as the Pakistan-based Neo Taliban of Afghanistan, the various brands of Taliban of the tribal areas of Pakistan, the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LET), the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (HUM), the Harkat-ul-Jihad-Al Islami (HUJI), the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JEM), the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LEJ) and Gulbuddin Heckmatyar’s Hizb-e-Islami (HEI) have been claiming credit for the acts of terrorism of these citizen jihadis and trying to give an impression as if all that has been happening in the areas on both sides of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border has been orchestrated by them. […]

At the same time, an increasing number of incidents being reported from these areas is the result of individual jihadi initiatives by persons unconnected with any of the known organisations. That is why the Pakistani Police has not been able to make much headway in its investigation of the acts of suicide terrorism, which have been taking place at regular intervals in different parts of the NWFP. […]

The citizen jihadis, who see no TV, Internet and video players which they regard as evil, have no way of seeing with their own eyes what is happening in other lands and far-away places. They are being influenced more by what they hear on the hundreds of FM radio stations operating in the tribal areas. Every mullah, who is some mullah in the tribal areas, has his own FM station. These stations have been propagating highly exaggerated accounts of the humiliation allegedly being inflicted on Muslims all over the world and of the evil impact of cultural globalisation on their religion, their men, women and children. The news of Ms. Nilofer Bakhtiar, a former Pakistani Minister, letting herself be hugged by her French gliding instructor has spread far and wide in the tribal areas through such FM stations.Stories of the evil influence of foreign culture on the Islamic way of life, trivialisation by foreign analysts of what is projected as the glorious instances of martyrdom by suicide terrorists etc are adding to the number of citizen jihadis.

Read it all.

Mauritania Maunderings

Being a collection of good and bad news concerning Mauritania.

The Baltimore Sun has caught the Mauritania bug.

Last year 30,000 African illegal migrants landed in the Canary Islands. Spain returned as many as quickly negotiated repatriation agreements allowed. Mauritania is serving as a major route for West African emigrants who would once have left from Morocco to take to the Canary Islands and Spanish soil. In recent years Morocco has clamped down on human traffickers, forcing the routes south through Mauritania. The longer routes mean more die from thirst and exposure on the way. Senegalese fishermen are performing much of the ferrying duties. Spain has begun to repatriate again in 2007.

More than twenty alleged Islamic militants, some with Al Qaeda training from Algeria’s Al Qaeda Organization in the Islamic Maghreb (formerly the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat, or GSPC), are being brought to trial in Mauritania by the newly elected government. They are accused of attempting to set up a branch of Al Qaeda in Mauritania. Some are accused of a military raid that killed fifteen Mauritanian soldiers. According to prosecutors, one defendant even tutored Osama bin Laden on the Koran. The accused are claiming torture by the police under the previous government. Every time a jihadist goes on trial, charged with anything, one of his tactics will be to accuse the police of torturing him. The tactic is even in their Jihad manuals.

In the counterpoint, exiled Mauritanians living in New York City have filed a civil suit against former president Taya, who was overthrown in a 2005 coup by the junta that set the stage for free elections earlier this year. They are accusing him of ethnic cleansing of black Africans, torture, and forced migration between 1989 and 1991.

Mauritanians are among the more than 170 Jihadists arrested in April by Saudi Arabian authorities who are charged with planning to overthrow the Saudi government.

The Tasiast gold mine project has been commissioned and begun operations in Mauritania. It is owned by Rio Narcea Gold Mines, Ltd, a Canadian mining company with projects in Spain, Mauritania, and Portugal.

According to Reuters, Mauritania has the highest measured neonatal death rate in the world, with 70 deaths per 1,000 births.

Mauritanian nomads, migrating from the Sahara to the city have begun to question their ancient traditions, such as the force-feeding of young girls to produce the “fat look” their culture finds so attractive. The main factor in the rethinking is the ten years of drought that have hit so hard in the Saharan north of the country. This is producing unexpected side-effects. For instance, nomad women who migrate to the city have discovered they can purchase cattle hormones that will fatten them up. They take them and fatten up themselves and their daughters. But cattle hormones can cause death by heart attacks or renal failure. The extent of the problem is not known for certain, as autopsies are illegal in Muslim Mauritania.
