Wrong Message in Iraq

Gen. Casey in Iraq sends the wrong message:

Casey said the first additional U.S. troops who will take part in the new Baghdad plan had arrived in the Iraqi capital.

He cautioned the Iraqi public not to expect instant results. “It’s not going to happen overnight,” he said, speaking of a “gradual evolution” over two to three months.

This is not the message that needs to be sent. The correct message would be, “Pay attention. Things are happening fast. General Petraeus has some new and exciting ideas. He is the author of our new counterinsurgency manual, and I’m looking forward to seeing how he implements the new doctrine.”
